Breton tells an interesting story here, but he doesn’t come to the same conclusion as I do. The moral of this story seems to be that Johnson was a political neophyte whose inaugural clumsiness turned two of his allies into enemies.

Of course, all politicians have to attend the school of hard knocks sometime, and it’s better to do it early than late.

Whether the mayor has a future in politics will depend greatly on what he learned from this thorny experience.
